Smokey and the Bandit Pontiac Trans Am in Starlight Black with Gold Firebird and accents, running the famous big block 6.6 Litre 400 Cui V8 mated to the T-350 Automatic gearbox. For sale from our Sydney Showroom. 

Launched on the big screen in 1977, Smokey and the Bandit revolves around two bootleggers as they attempt to illegally transport 400 cases of Coors beer from Texarkana to Atlanta. The film staring Burt Reynolds and Sally Field went on to gross $126.7 million in North America (the movie production budget was only $4.3 million). It was the second-highest-grossing movie of 1977 after Star Wars.

Other than the actors, the star of the Smokey and the Bandit movie was of course the Pontiac Trans Am driven by Reynolds throughout the film. Film director Hal Needham convinced Pontiac to feature the Pontiac Trans Am in the movie. The movie catapulted the Trans Am into an overnight sales success story. 

The 1978 Firebird Trans Am is easily identified by its Starlight Black paint, gold striping, gold grille inserts, and gold accented snowflake wheels. Other standard equipment includes a rear decklid spoiler, dual chrome splitter exhaust extensions, and front air dam. The interior features a gold engine-turned instrument bezel, gold-accented steering wheel, and Firebird emblems. 

For sale is one stunning example of the 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am (WS4) Special Edition in signature factory Starlight Black paint (Paint code 19) with Gold Firebird decals and pin striping. Running the enormous 6.6 Litre 400 Cui 4BBL V8 mated to the T-350 Automatic gearbox, this Trans Am presents in excellent condition featuring a full restoration by Trans Am Florida in Miami, USA. 

The interior features the Oxen black trim. All gauges work and the Trans Am is fitted with factory power steering and air-conditioning. The factory dash has been upgraded with digital gauges and the car is showing 12,027 Kilometres which indicates the mileage since the restoration in the USA. The Trans Am is supplied with an owners manual, import paperwork and a factory build sheet confirming the Special Edition build and options fitted to this special Firebird. 

The Pontiac is fitted with a space saver spare in the boot. Riding on genuine Snowflake rims with excellent BF Goodrich rubber. The Pontiac is fitted with an electronic immobiliser and the A/C has been serviced and is ice cold. There is also an old school look digital radio and the car has been full PPF wrapped. The Firebird has also had Dynamat sound proofing fitted to the cabin floors and boot areas.  

A Special Edition Trans Am like this one but once owned by Universal Studios and used to promote Smokey and the Bandit was auctioned for $550,000 at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2016 auction setting a record for the highest price paid for a Trans Am Special Edition.

Even after 40 years, the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Special Edition is still one of the most recognised Pontiacs ever built. It brings back memories of a time when disco, drive-ins, and CB radios were still staples in American culture. Few cars can match the popularity this car possessed back in the late 1970s. Pontiac may no longer be around today but the memories of this brand and the Trans Am will live on forever.
