1976 HOLDEN MONARO HX for sale
Price: $119,990
Holden enthusiasts agree to disagree over whether the HX LE is a Monaro or not. Officially Holden never labelled it a Monaro and it never carried Monaro badges, but time has blurred the picture and it's now generally referred to as a Monaro by enthusiasts. Officially the last coupe of the first generation, the LE, for Limited Edition, was how Holden's marketing people described the 580 HX LE Coupes built as a luxury coupe with sports car performance.
For sale by the current long term owner, is a stunning example of the HX LE Monaro with only 172,612 km on the clock. For your inspection by appointment in Sydney.
The LE was a blend of Monaro LS and Caprice luxury sedan. Holden's then head of design, Leo Pruneau had more influence over the LE than anyone and he fitted it with every feature he could, which helps explain why it was the most expensive Holden you could buy at the time.
The LE Monaro featured a number of desirable factory upgrades, including an exclusive metallic 'LE' colour scheme with gold pinstriping, gold-finished honeycomb polycast wheels lifted straight from the Pontiac parts bin, a 308-cubic inch V8 engine, a Turbo 400 transmission, a Salisbury limited-slip differential, power brakes, a four-headlight front end and chrome front and rear bumpers.
Inside, Holden fitted LE only Cinnabar red velour trim with plaid inserts, matching deep cut pile carpets, liberal splashes of burr walnut over the dash and centre console and a sporty three-spoke steering wheel. The list of standard features was extensive for the time and included air-conditioning, power windows, power antenna, push-button radio, and quadraphonic cassette sound system.
For power the LE was fitted with Holden's 308 cubic inch V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic auto transmission. With 161 kW on tap the 1613 kg coupe would rush to 100 km/h in a little over nine seconds and account for the standing 400-metre sprint in a tick over 17 seconds.
Finding a quality example of the HX LE is not easy nowadays. With only 172,612km on the clock, this beautifully maintained LE is a very worthy candidate for the Holden or Monaro collector. With new exterior paint and all original trim, this is a rare find indeed!
The LE features the matching numbers 308ci V8 engine, Turbo 400 transmission, Salisbury limited-slip differential, working A/C, power steering and power brakes. The interior is all original and is finished in Cinnabar Burgundy velour with factory cloth inserts and burr walnut-effect trim. The original factory supplied 8 track stereo has been replaced with a Clarion cassette player. The LE package also includes a top-tinted windscreen, a heated rear screen, an analogue clock, electric windows, a power radio antenna and a dual-exit exhaust system.
The LE is riding on an original set of mint condition 14-inch gold-finished 'honeycomb' polycast alloy wheels fitted with 225/65R14 radial tyres.
The current owner has faithfully serviced and maintained the LE and car looks and drives like a new car with no damage, rust or hidden issues.
This Holden HX LE Monaro is a very rare and highly desirable limited-edition classic Australian performance coupe. One of only 580 examples produced, with sought-after factory performance, cosmetic and mechanical upgrades, and boasting muscular styling, alongside a potent 5.0-litre V8 engine, it would make a notable addition to any Australian car collection and an exciting companion for weekend drives, fair-weather cruising, and classic car show visits.
For your inspection by appointment in Sydney. (Ref. 6732)
If you wish we will gladly arrange a video tour of the car using WhatsApp and of course there is no issue with door to door enclosed transport anywhere in Australia or New Zealand.
