For sale is a very tidy HSV SV89 in Alpine White with the luxurious HSV spec'd Mulberry contoured leather and check-pattern velour trim. Build No. 149 is showing 190,104 Klms on the clock, and is a totally unmodified example of the rare to find SV89. For sale from our Sydney Showroom. 

The SV89 was the first HSV to use Holden's newly designed fuel-injected 5 litre V8 engine car. It was also the first HSV car to be based on the VN Commodore. With minor modifications, HSV bumped the power output from 165kW to 180kW and while the five-speed manual gearbox was left alone, HSV tricked-up the four-speed automatic versions with a revised shift pattern for perkier performance.

In the looks department, HSV went for an all white theme. The body kit consisted of reasonably deep front, rear and side skirts, the latter being the most conservative element of the package. A small bootlid spoiler was also fitted and an HSV-specific grille added. Badging was, of course, HSV and an SV89 decal appeared on the grille beside the right-hand headlight.

About the only non-white items were the black door handles and window frames, and the polished edges of the five-spoke alloy wheels. The wheels were actually the same as those on the Walkinshaw model with the centres painted white to continue the overall theme.

Though based on the humble Commodore, the SV89's cabin was nicer, thanks to HSV's decision to use plenty of soft trim (and some leather for seat facings). Full instrumentation was grafted into the standard dashboard and a Momo wheel replaced the standard ugly, Holden tiller.
On its launch in March 1989, the SV89 proved to be a strong seller, with demand making itself felt against a production run of just 200 cars. The best thing about an SV89 is its pedigree. At a time when HSV cars are revered by enthusiasts, even an early model with the HSV badge is going to take some beating in the credibility stakes.

While Build No. 149 drives and runs well, it has been part of a large HSV collection and has driven only 1,000 Klms in the last 19 years so would benefit from a mechanical freshen up. The SV89 is supplied with the current owners purchase invoice from 2007 and one key. 

Here is a great opportunity to buy a rare to find limited run HSV and a significant model of an early HSV model.
