Fully restored LJ GTR XU-1 Torana Tribute. Built from a genuine 7th month 1973 Glacier White with Black trim LJ Torana S. This is a quality build and presents in superb condition throughout. The goal of the enthusaist owner was to build an XU-1 Tribute that looks, goes and feels like a brand new XU-1. We think you will agree that he has achieved his goal. For sale from our Sydney Showroom.
Aussie Muscle Car fans will remember the rain soaked '72 Hardie Ferodo 500 at Bathurst won by 27 year old Peter Brock driving a Holden Dealer Team prepared Torana LJ XU-1. This race was the first of Brock's record nine victories in which Brock finished a lap ahead of Queensland racer John French driving an XY Falcon GT-HO Phase III. And this was despite Brock being penalised one minute at his last pit stop for starting his car while the HDT crew were still re-fueling.
The Hardie-Ferodo 500 created two legends on that day. Brock and the LJ Torana XU-1.
FOR SALE is this stunning restored Glacier White LJ Torana S professionally restored by Tilley's Body Works in Brookvale, NSW as a GTR XU-1 Torana Tribute. The Torana was painted in 2 pack Glacier white and underwent multiple buffing and sanding processes to make the paint look like an OEM acrylic finish. Blackouts were finished to correct XU-1 detail including the tail light surrounds.
The Torana is fitted with a Hercules Competition Engines built 202 equipped with a matching set of genuine triple Zenith Stromberg carbies with original heat insulator spacers, a HSD Bathurst spec head, Solid Crow cam, Chrome Moly pushrods and hydraulic lifters and Yella Terra roller rockers. The motor is cooled via a 3 core copper cored radiator with twin SPAL electric fans. Two piece ceramic coated Pacemaker extractors lead to a custom handmade hi-flow single 21/2" exhaust with dual outlet. Dynoed at 192 HP @5,500 RPM, the Tory comes with dyno sheet, resto and rebuild photos, receipts and a 45 page document summarising the parts used in the build.
The Torana is running a Hercules Engines rebuilt M20 gearbox with new syncros, bearings and seals paired with a reconditioned 3.08:1 Banjo differential. Additionally, the suspension has been upgraded with heavy duty springs and shocks along with front and rear sway bars.
The interior is presented in full XU-1 spec, complete with period correct XU-1 steering wheel, GTR door cards, Knox carpets, genuine console and headlining. The seats have been resprung, sunvisors and seat belts refurbished and new pinch welds and door rubbers fitted. Even the heater box has been refurbished for those cold winter drives.
In the boot is a Price Engineering XU-1 fuel tank as used in the 1970s before reproduction XU-1 tanks were available, a second battery that operates the central locking and spare with factory tools..
Brakes and suspension are also fully reconditioned with particular attention to the front lower control arms to enable this Torana to handle like a Bathurst spec XU-1. Lovell springs and Koni adjustable shocks have been fitted and all bushings have been renewed.
Sitting on 13x7" Hotwires with new nuts and washers on Avon tyres or the new owner can opt for 13x6" Bathurst Globe wheels on excellent tyres.
The Torana comes with a 45 page detailed overview of the parts used in the build with photos and full details for future reference.
