Introduced in October 1974, the HJ Monaro GTS offered extra comfort, a comprehensive sports instrument panel and beefier HJ styling. The four-headlight Monaro LS coupe became the new entry level Monaro and the GTS continued as a single headlight coupe or four door sedan. The four door GTS featured a prominent, blacked-out grille, bigger wraparound rear lights, more aggressive side vents and decals all courtesy of Leo Preneau's design team..

Full foam high-backed seats came in a variety of trims, including herringbone with a red centre stripe. The GTS instrument panel featured multiple ventilation outlets and clear recessed instruments with international symbols.

The first factory front and rear spoiler options gave the HJ GTS real presence, the deep rear spoiler and new tail lights in particular bolstering its sloping boot line.

As the imported Chevrolet 350 had been de-tuned to meet US anti-pollution legislation, it no longer made sense as a premium performance option. Instead, Holden boosted the compression ratio of the local 308 to close the performance gap. The automatic 308 gained the Turbo-Hydramatic 400 from the previous GTS 350 and the manual version scored the trusty M21 4 speed gearbox.

The bright colours, large GTS decals, colour-keyed mirror and bumpers, integrated body-coloured spoilers and optional bonnet black-out made it the most distinctive of all the four door Monaros.

Running a period correct 308 V8 L31 engine and highly sought after M21 4 speed manual gearbox and 3.36: 1 ratio Salisbury rear end, this HJ Monaro GTS is presented in stunning condition throughout. Purchased by the current custodian in 2008 as an unfinished project, the current long term owner went to town on building a 5 Litre V8 motor, retrimming the interior and sourcing the widened GTS rims. The body is super clean with no rust, dents or damage whatsoever.

Mechanically, the GTS is stock as a rock with correct exhaust manifold, date code correct Rochester carby, coil, dizzy, big nut master, correct AC Delco battery, correct air cleaner and correct battery terminals. The owner also fitted factory power steering. The brakes have also been reconditioned. All mechanical work was done professionally with no shortcuts and the Monaro has only done about 2,500 kilometres since the rebuild.

The interior has been fully retrimmed with new seat trims, hood lining, sunvisors, carpet, seat belts and dash pad. The original GTS steering wheel and all gauges are still in place. The radio, electric aerial, clock, heater demister, dwell wipers and heater are all in working condition.

Open the boot and there is a new boot mat, spare tyre on a standard GTS rim and the factory tools are all still in place.
