1968 was an interesting year for the Ford Mustang. Car enthusiasts will remember the infamous Highland Green GT 390 Fastback, which was made popular by the movie Bullit, featuring Steve McQueen. McQueen drove the 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback and chased a Dodge Charger down the streets of San Francisco. The movie showcased the capabilities of the car and helped develop the iconic status of the Mustang.
Imported to Australia in 1999, this 1968 Ford Mustang features the matching numbers 289 2V Windsor V8 engine with Edelbrock E Street kit including heads, roller rockers and manifold, dyno tuned Holley 600cfm carby with electric choke, new fuel tank, sender unit and fuel lines and MSD electronic ignition. Mirror image professionally converted to right hand drive with engineering paperwork, this stunning Mustang Coupe also features ice cold factory integrated air-conditioning and power steering. The C4 auto has been serviced and the 8 3/4" diff has been rebuilt with new gaskets throughout.
To celebrate the Mustang's 3rd birthday, Ford introduced the Sports Sprint limited-edition "dress-up" package in the spring of 1967. This package featured a louvered bonnet similar to the GT Mustang an air cleaner with a "Sport Sprint" decal, bright metal rocker panel moldings and air-simulated side scoops similar to the California Special and Shelby Mustangs. It also added side stripes and bonnet blackouts plus on the inside a sports console.
The interior has been retrimmed in standard Mustang Parchment trim with new door cards, hood lining, window winder mechanisms and door handles. The dash is mostly original with all working gauges, a wooden Mustang steering wheel and the original AM radio is supplied.
The Mustang was re-painted in 2020 in Candy Apple Red with a new black vinyl roof. All exterior chrome is original and this car is rust and damage free. The Mustang is riding on 15" Magnum Wheels and 215/70R15 BF Goodrich tyres. Braking is via front disc brakes imported from the USA with standard drums on the rear.
The Mustang is supplied with a huge receipt folder filled with receipts for over $100,000 worth of works, import paperwork and engineering approval documentation.
