For sale is one of only 139 XB GTs built with the 4V Big Port Heads and 4 speed Top Loader gearbox. A multi GT Nationals award winning original maintained Polar White 1973 Falcon XB GT, this log booked treasure is proudly presented for your inspection from our Sydney Showroom.
The Ford XB GT received accolades for its state-of-the-art four-wheel disc brakes and headlight flasher feature. Wheels Magazine even claimed it possessed the finest braking system among vehicles manufactured in Australia, competing effectively with international models. The vehicle's robust suspension and well-balanced braking mechanisms allowed for rapid stops without wheel lock-up or fade, demonstrating remarkable stopping power and handling performance.
To enhance quality and reliability, Ford engineers implemented over 2,000 modifications to the XB GT Falcon, including a revamped friction disc collapsible steering column that mitigated shocks experienced by the driver. Additionally, participation in racing competitions such as the Bathurst 500 drove significant innovations like the adoption of four-wheel disc brakes.
The King of XB GTs, this one of only 139 XB GT Falcons was endowed by the factory in late 1973 with the 4V big port headed 351 Cleveland and 4 speed Top Loader manual gearbox. This exceptional 1973 XB GT Falcon, is showcased in its original Polar White paint with contrasting Black accents. Only the bonnet black out has been repainted with most of the exterior, engine bay, door jambs and boot still in the original factory Polar White.
From a mechanical standpoint, the GT is equipped with the matching numbers 351 4V Cleveland engine and 4-speed Top Loader gearbox linked to the factory 9" LSD. The 351 performs robustly and emits an incredible note from the dual exhausts. This is a very complete unmolested example featuring the original motor, gearbox, diff, tail shaft, Motorcraft carby and carby tag, manifold and exhaust manifolds, yellow topped coil with coil tag, distributor, Utilux Hose Clamps and date coded horns. Even the original shocks are still in place.
The interior features the original factory seats along with door cards and armrests. Everything works as it should and the Quarter Vent Window factory option makes this a one of one built XB GT. This car has been judged against its piers and has won Best Original Maintained XB GT at the 14th GT Nationals 2011, 15th GT Nationals 2013 and 19th GT Nationals in 2023.
The GT was originally sold by Coachcraft Ford, Wooloongabba, QLD and is optioned with laminated windscreen, Colour Keyed Two Tone Hood and Quarter Vent Windows. The GT is supplied with a Letter of Verification from Ford, the original Log Books and Owners Manuals, an original XB GT Sales Brochure, an AUTOart 1:18 model of the XB GT, trophies won at the GT Nationals and a Show Board. The Original Queensland Number Plates OFT 058 are still registered to the Falcon.
Open the boot and there is the original boot matt, spare and factory tools. The GT is riding on genuine 12 slots with GT skull caps and dress rims with red walled Aquatreads all round.
The XB GT Falcon was the last of the original GTs and to many is considered the best road going Grand Tourer. Equipped with the 4V Big Port Cleveland and 4 Speed Top Loader gearbox, 139 GT Falcons got the best of both worlds.
