1980 HDT COMMODORE VC for sale
Price: $74,990
The VC HDT Commodore has a special place in a lot of people's hearts including Peter Brock who often said that the VC was his favourite Brock Commodore. The VC HDT Commodore was a whole lot more than a tarted-up family car with a body kit. With the VC, the Holden Dealer Team turned a highly specified Commodore SL/E into a luxury executive express with dynamic qualities that gave the Euro marques something to think about. For sale from Ballarat, Victoria is Build No. 230, an unrestored automatic VC Brock Commodore in Firethorn Red with log books and 202,995 Klms on the clock.
Brock started with the engine. The trusty 308 V8 scored a comprehensive upgrade for the breathing, including work on the heads, inlet manifold and the fitment of a four-barrel Rochester carburettor plus a bigger diameter fuel line. A cold air intake was part of the package, along with a larger than stock air cleaner, borrowed from the Chevrolet parts catalogue.
The result was a 40kW increase in power and a claim of a 20 per cent improvement in fuel consumption. Enough for a 15.5sec standing 400m and a top speed of around 215km/h, at the time the quickest Aussie road car on the market. Behind the engine you had a choice of a M21 four-speed manual or three-speed TH350 auto and a 3.36 ratio heavy-duty limited-slip diff. In total, 281 of the 500 cars produced were built with the TH350 automatic gearbox.
The chassis scored a similarly comprehensive make-over with Bilsteins shocks, heavier springs and sway bars leading Wheels magazine to commend "Brock's understanding of suspension design as, frankly, quite remarkable." Brakes too were upgraded, with ventilated discs on the front and a bigger master cylinder.
Inside, you got the full Holden luxo pack, including power windows, air-conditioning, central locking and velour trim - in Carmine Red only. Outside the body kit and striping were designed by the legendary Leo Pruneau who designed many standout Holdens including the HQ SS and Kingswood, the VB, VC, VH and VK Commodores, along with the LJ, LH and LX Toranas and the Holden Statesman.
FOR SALE is an excellent example of the VC Brock Commodore. Build No.230 is finished in the original factory applied Firethorn Red with contrasting original Carmine trim. The paint is showing its age as the clear coat is thinning on the roof, boot and front bumper bar. There is some rust in the left hand side doors and RHS rear quarter. Four replacement doors plus a lower LHS rear quarter panel come with the car (see photos). The interior is in excellent condition with the Carmine Red velour seats having been covered with sheep skins for most of its life. The Brock comes with the original log books showing the car being sold by Suttons Motors, Chullora, NSW on the 5th of June 1981. The Brock has had only three owners, the original a company director of General Power Controls P/L in Penrith, NSW. The current mileage is 202,995 Kilometres and some receipts are included with the Commodore.
Mechanically, the VC features the original maintained matching numbers engine which retains the HDT improvements including the Rochester carby, HDT cold air intake, air cleaner, Brock modified crank and heads. The Brockie has had a full engine rebuild at 202,647 Kilometres and has recently been fully serviced and drives perfectly.
The interior is untouched and all original as Brock and his team designed it. The original stereo and the clock are still working as is the electric boot release. The integrated air-conditioning system is in place but not connected at present. A replacement compressor is supplied with the car.
The car has 5 good condition Irmscher rims with Firestone 225/60ZR15 tyres and the spare has the original Uniroyal Wild Cat 225/60/15 tyre still fitted.
This is a great opportunity to purchase a VC Brock at an attractive price point. Perfect to enjoy as an unrestored Brock or treat the car to a glamorous new paint job. The choice is yours.
Located in Ballarat, Victoria for your inspection. (Ref. 6503)
And if you like we will gladly arrange a video inspection/road test of the car using WhatsApp and of course there is no issue with door to door freight delivery anywhere in Australia or New Zealand.
