1973 CHRYSLER VALIANT CHARGER VJ for sale

Price: $245,000
Beautifully restored super rare, one of only sixteen VJ E48 Valiant Charger XL 6 Packs ever built. In Vintage Red with Black trim, this E48 comes with log books, owners manuals and a full history. Located in Perth, WA.

With the Super Car Scare of 1973, Chrysler was left with thousands of dollars worth of high performance parts that were destined for their street cars in order to gain homologation approval for racing at Bathurst. As a result, Chrysler made two cars to get rid of these valuable parts: the E55 Charger which received a detuned 340 V8 with an open wheeler 2.92 ratio diff and a 3 speed slushbox and the E48 Charger which received a detuned E49 engine with E49 Webers, E49 D20 4 speed gearbox and the Bathurst destined Borg Warner 88 Suregrip 3.27:1 LSD (see hump in the boot which is unique to the E48 and allowed the diff clearance from hitting the underside of the boot floor on hard acceleration!).

In the ownership of the current Chrysler enthusiast owner since 1995, this superb VJ E48 has covered a GENUINE 152,065 kilometres since new!!!! The original owner, Ken South used the car as his everyday family car including a trip around Australia with his family. He sold the Charger in October 1985 to a young apprentice mechanic who had grand designs to build a show car. However, once pulled apart, life got in the way and the restoration never progressed. The current owner purchased the car in 1995 as a disassembled project with all the original parts supplied and then set about undertaking a full concours restoration of this special Charger.

The all matching numbers 265 triple Weber equipped high performance Hemi engine is still on its original bore and the mechanic owner has rebuilt the engine with dual valve springs, titanium valve retainers, roller rockers, Crowler full face lifters and mild solid cam shaft. The engine has been balanced and blue printed and is now producing 340bhp. The factory D-20 4 speed manual gearbox has been rebuilt and the Charger runs the E48 6 Pack only heavy duty Suregrip 3.27:1 diff. The Charger is still running the genuine factory headers with cast iron flanges made in the Weber factory in Bologna, Italy. The owner has fitted a twin stainless steel exhaust with upturned stainless exit pipes.

The Charger has been bare metal re-painted in Dulux 2 Pack Vintage Red with all stainless and chrome rechromed or polished. All glass is original and all glass has been repolished. The original Parchment interior with non reclining seats has been replaced with genuine VH E49 6 Pack black trim, with new door cards, hood lining, rubbers, seat belts, seat belt buckles and carpet. The original dash has been refurbished and the original Parchment door cards are supplied with the E48.

Importantly, this special E48 Charger is supplied with the original log books, delivery documentation, the original Wentworth Chrysler Sale Invoice, original photos of the car and documents from the original owner, Ken South, several original registration papers and two sets of original keys. The car is also still wearing the original WA number plate XEU-614.

This is investment grade MOPAR buying!
