1962 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C1 for sale

Price: $219,990
For sale from our Sydney Showroom is the one of the best C1 Corvette we have seen. In stunning Torch Red with matching red trim, this nut and bolt restored C1 is running the sought after 327Cui V8 and 4 speed Muncie gearbox. This is iconic American muscle and it could be yours.

When the GIs returned from WW2, they brought with them a range of sports cars from Europe including Austin Healeys, MGs, Alfa Romeos and Jaguars. General Motors designer Harley Earl, loved sports cars and convinced GM to build a two-seater sports car and with his Special Projects crew began working on the new car in late 1951. The result was the hand-built, EX-122 pre-production Corvette prototype, which was first shown to the public at the 1953 General Motors Motorama at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York. Following rave reviews, GM built what became their flagship GM sports car, now in its 66th year of production.

First built in 1953, the initial 300 Corvettes were hand built and ran the 235 ci 6 cylinder. For 1955 and 56 the Corvette was powered by the 265 ci V8, from 1956 to 1961 they ran a 283 cui V8 and in 1962 the husky 327. The Corvette had evolved to rival sports cars around the world with an unabashed reputation for performance and fun.

While the jump to a V8 in the 1950's had proved pivotal to the Corvette's ultimate success and sustainability, nobody could have imagined the impact that the introduction of the 327 V8 would have on the last of the C1 Corvettes. The larger 327 V8 produced power and torque that was unparalleled with anything seen prior to its emergence as the primary power plant of the 62 Corvette. This new 'Vette, when equipped with a four speed and fuel injection, could regularly run the quarter mile in under fifteen seconds and achieve speeds in excess of 100 mile per hour while doing so.

Despite it's origins and it's undeniable ties to the very first Corvette, the 1962 was faster, handled better, was more physically appealing, and the most civilised of any Corvette made to date, though it continued to retain much of the pioneering imagination that had made Harley Earl's 1953 concept car such a triumph. In fact the '62 remains one of the most desirable of all the C1 models.

Little did the original designers know just how successful the Corvette was about to become! From the original C1, the Corvette is one of the most iconic and long lived American muscle car models. Now offered as the C8, the DNA of the first Corvette is certainly still alive and well in these modern muscle cars.

Now for sale is this stunning 1962 Chevy Corvette C1. The subject to a full nut and bolt rotisserie restoration, the original chassis was completely restored in Torch Red with all new chrome work. The 327ci V8 engine with FiTech fuel injection mated to the four speed Muncie manual transmission, rebuilt diff with 3.07 gears, new soft top frame and canvas and original style wheels and caps with wide white walls complete this perfect picture.

This 1962 Chevrolet Corvette was purchased by the previous owner in 2012 as a driver quality car. With an eye for detail, the owner decided he wanted more out of the car, so in 2019 he pulled the car off the road and over the next four years put it through an extensive restoration. The body was separated from the chassis and everything was completely disassembled.

The body of the car was stripped down and a huge amount of time was spent on getting all of the gaps on the car to be as perfect as possible with modifications made if required to get it right. If you look around the car you will see that the gaps are all exceptional and far exceed the quality of anything that would have left the factory in the 60s. Once this was sorted, the car was completely repainted inside and out in Corvette Torch Red by Semmits in Newcastle. The underbody and inner panel areas have been finished and painted to match. The windshield received a restoration by Glass Works in the USA and all of the chrome was refinished and all cast parts have been rechromed. Completing the look externally is a set of factory style steel wheels and hubcaps with wide white wall radial tyres.

Inside the car has also been completely refinished in a factory style. All the soft coverings were replaced with a kit from Al Knock interiors. Again, there is a great attention to detail in the way the door trims and kick panels align. The gauges were rebuilt by Rodgers Clocks in the USA and a new 15" steering wheel fitted. A new Al Knock soft top was installed on a completely rebuilt soft top frame and finished with new hardware. New glass was used throughout and new power window motors were used as well as all new locks, strikers and door catches.

Pop the bonnet and you will be greeted by an extremely well detailed engine bay housing the factory 327ci V8. The engine has been fully rebuilt by 5 Star Engines and upgraded with a FiTech EFI system. The engine is paired to a Muncie four-speed manual transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through a rebuilt diff with 3.07 gears. Fuel is supplied from a new EFI fuel tank through all fuel lines. The radiator, alternator and stater have all also been replaced. The chassis along with all the bolt on items were completely sand blasted and powder coated in factory style black. The front and rear suspension was fully rebuilt with new King Pines, bushing and restored springs. Likewise the steering box is a factory item that has been rebuilt. The brakes have been upgraded to discs up front with a dual master cylinder and booster upgrade.

As you will see in the pictures, the owner of this car was absolutely fastidious in building one of the best C1s we have seen replacing or restoring every possible part of the car. Its hard to capture the level of detail in the photos so we strongly encourage you to come and inspect this Corvette in person. C1 Vettes built to this level rarely hit the market. So if you want the best, here's your opportunity!

For your inspection in our Sydney showroom. (Ref: 6461)

If you wish we will gladly arrange a video tour/inspection of the car using WhatsApp and of course there is no issue with door to door enclosed transport anywhere in Australia or New Zealand.
